The prototype for the project. It measures 47" high X 4 1?2" deep X 14 1/2" wide. |

Since the front door was 14 1/2" I had to glue two 8" panels together. Hopefully there will be no warping of the panel in the cold shop while I'm manipulating it. Here I am gluing the 2 front door panels. |

Cutting rabbets for the back anchor panel. There are 2 "backer boards" for the project; the first is set into a rabbet in the main panel and the felt panel is inserted after the finishing is complete. |

The basic box completed. It was stained with Golden Oak (2 coats), varnished 1 time with Satin Poly and treated with Grain Fill. |

The door stained and 1st coat of varnish. |

The door warped badly while the project was progressing. I had no choice but to discard it and make a panel door. |

While at Yukon Lumber, I noticed roll of African Mahogany veneer that was very cheap, due to a small crack running down the center for about 12". The piece is 48" long so I decided a mahogany panel door would be the perfect solution. |

I could not cut the rails with enough precision by hand to make them look right. I had to purchase a coping sled to make it work. This is one of the best....made by Pinnicle. |

The rails and stiles cut. |

The earing hanger for the inside of the door (replaces the ring holder in the prototype. The rungs will be covered in felt. |

Assembly of the door. I am very pleased with the color scheme....the mahogany nicely offsets the red oak. |

The door treatments completed. The raised hangers are for bracelets and such and the large hooks are for her watches. |
